C sequestration is expressed as the difference in the average C content in the soil organic matter in the surface 30 cm layer of soil in the periods 2040-2060 (or 2080-2100) compared to the mean of the period 2000-2020 (expressed in t/ha). This is done while simulating the same cultivation system throughout the entire period.

The C sequestration potential in arable soil defined in this way expresses the rate of C retention/release in the surface layer over 40 or 80 years.

The results are illustrated in a more detailed form for the simulation units and further at the district level, where the actual area of arable land of the simulation units is taken into account in the calculation.
