Renowned Norwegian Virologist Dr Carl Spetz Visits CARC

On 29 August 2025, the Czech Agrifood Research Centre (CARC) welcomed an esteemed guest, Dr Carl Spetz, an internationally recognised expert in virology and molecular biology from the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research (NIBIO), Ås, Norway.

During his visit, Dr Spetz met with the Centre’s leadership and members of the research teams Plant Physiology and Cryobiology and Plant Virus and Vector Interactions. Discussions focused on recent findings and future directions for joint research, particularly in:
  • applying cryobiology methods for plant sanitation,
  • investigating the molecular mechanisms of plant virus replication,
  • exploring new avenues for the practical use of research outcomes.
CARC Director Jiban Kumar, Ph.D., stressed the importance of the collaboration:
“Our partnership with NIBIO is of exceptional value. The exchange of expertise with leading global scientists such as Dr Spetz enhances the quality of our research and opens up new opportunities for international cooperation.”
Dr Spetz, in turn, praised the high standard of CARC’s facilities and highlighted the scope for expanding joint activities:
“The research teams at CARC demonstrate outstanding expertise, and it is inspiring to see how they drive research and innovation. This creates exciting opportunities for our collaboration.”
The visit of Dr Carl Spetz reaffirmed the importance of long-term cooperation between CARC and NIBIO and further strengthened a partnership vital to advancing modern agricultural and food science research.
